Colossians 1:15
For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.
Romans 1:18
For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.
Dear Orchestra Parents:
“I am very excited for this to be my fifth full year as orchestra director at Westminister Academy. I feel like I’ve learned much from other teachers, adminstrators, and even my students. Textbooks: Music
Objectives/Syllabus:
To gain a better understanding of God through music by which we may honor him (see Scriptures) To gain a better appreciation of western, classical music To appreciate the inner workings, or theory, and history of the music To better understand and enjoy music
Expectations: To have each student prepared for rehearsals To have each student understand the background of each piece To have each student improve their instrumental and musical skills
Procedures: Students are given five minutes after class begins to retrieve their instruments, get their music and be seated. We begin with prayer, a Scripture, some theory, scales, then music. Students are given 5 minutes to put their instruments away before class ends. Each student will be assigned their own instruments (with the possible exception of basses).
Content: Scales are based on scale studies for each particular instrument. Music is selected from our library or ordered, based on quality of work, popularity and effectiveness as a teaching tool.
Homework/Tests: The only homework is the practice of one’s instrument. Playing tests are administered every two weeks for the purpose of seating or seating/grade.
Grades: Grades are comprised of 4 elements, performance (35%), practice of their instrument (25%), participation in class (25%), and playing tests (15%). Percentages vary from grade to grade, especially after the student reaches thirteen and the grade for practice is no longer given. After the age of thirteen, the percentages for performance and playing test categories increase.
If you have any questions or would like to volunteer (chaperones are needed), please feel free to contact me (771-4615, x2301 or schwartzd@wacad.edu).
