GPA
WHAT IS IT?
Three types of GPA
1. Semester GPA * Uses only semester grades * Grade on transcript/sent to colleges
2. Quarter GPA * Figured on quarter grade * Used for Honor Roll and athletic eligibility * Averaged with exam for semester grade
3. Cumulative GPA * Averages all semester grades for each year in high school
How is the Weighted GPA figured? Each course grade is given a numerical value of 1-4
4= 90%-100% 3= 80%-89% 2= 70%-79% 1= 60%-69% 0= below 60%
An unweighted GPA is obtained by adding the assigned numerical value to the course grade and dividing by the number of courses.
Example:| English | 88% | 3 | | Math | 94% | 4 | | Science | 85% | 3 | | History | 77% | 2 | | Bible | 95% | 4 | | PE/Hlth | 95% | 4 | | Spanish | 89% | 3 | | | 23 | 23 / 7= 3.29 |
How to figure semester grades
1st quarter grade X 35% + 2nd quarter grade X 35% +
Semester Exam X 30% = GRADE FOR THE COURSE
Example: | 1st Q | 88 x 35% = 30.8 | | 2nd Q | 94 x 35% = 32.9 | | Final | 70 x 30% = 21 |
| Grade for the course | 84.7 |
