Second and Third Grade Art

Fourth and Fifth Grade Art

Second and third grade art are devoted to experiencing as many media and elements as possible. As students have a background in drawing and color, we now can explore the various color groups and drawing techniques that will enhance their projects and make painting, drawing, and construction more enjoyable and rewarding. In second grade, we have a concentrated unit on figure drawing, warm and cool color theory and weaving. In third grade, we concentrate on principles of design, portraits, and composition. At both levels, imagination and individuality are encouraged. As is expected in all levels, teeshirts are required to protect uniforms. Fourth and fifth grade art are devoted to creating perspective in drawing and painting using single point perspective, color perspective in landscape and atmospheric perspective. In fourth grade, emphasis is placed on color theory as it relates to 3D art, and pencil renderings of nature. In fifth grade, we concentrate on figure drawing to attain proportion and action in figure sculpture. Art appreciation is also a part of the program utilizing a student-made sketchbook. Looking, sketching and criticizing great artworks will be done in these books.
